The People of Bali Inspire a Line of Tee-shirts

While Some Visitors to Bali Buy Tee-Shirts, Two American Men Use Bali as the Inspirational Basis for a New Line of 'Bali-Inspired' Shirts.

(11/12/2005)

Scott Mandell and Joe Monge have been frequent visitors to Bali, regularly using the services of Bali Discovery Tours to assist them in their travels around the island and in visiting other parts of Indonesia, including the islands of Lombok and Java. After traveling to Bali for the past three years, Scott and Joe found themselves inspired to create a series of graphic designs based on the thousands of photographs taken during their journeys. Eventually these designs formed the basis for a brand new line of yoga/spiritual lifestyle tee shirts proving to be hot-selling pieces of apparel in the United States.

"Everywhere you look in Bali is an inspiration," says Joe Monge, head designer for Om Body Yoga Apparel. "When I looked at a spider web at sunrise covered in dew, I was inspired to design a similar pattern that eventually became Tune into Harmony, - one of our more popular tee shirts. If you look at the pattern of om on this shirt, you notice that they form a distinct spiral spider web pattern. I've been inspired by the star formations in the sky, the ripples when the wind blows over the river and for next season, one of the most vivid and photographed items from our trips, the lotus flower, became a graphic called Let Balance Blossom."

Looking at the various designs, you begin to see the ripples on the water depicted in United States of Consciousness, and stones across a body of water in Let Go of Ego. All of the messages on these tee shirts are linked to the life that Scott and Joe say they observed while traveling around the island.

"The people of Bali have shown us by their actions and their behavior how to live more fully realized lives of gratitude and humility," Scott said. "When we write the words Tune into Harmony or Let Balance Blossom on our shirts, these thoughts are directly based on the feelings that we have interacting with the Balinese people."

This is the first season for the Om Body Yoga tee shirts - a line everyone at balidiscovery.com hopes sells well, permitting Scott and Joe to come back year after year seeking more inspiration for the continuation of their line of Bali-inspired apparel.
