Ms. Yanti Sukamdani has been elected the Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) for the period 2001-2005 in a hotly contested election against a member of the outgoing board, Mr. Said Umar Husein. The elections, held at the Annual Congress of the PHRI in the East Java capital of Surabaya, saw Ms. Sukamdani, defeat Mr. Husein by a final vote-count of 120 to 55.
Ms. Yanti Sukamdani, is the CEO of the Sahid Group of hotels and the daughter of legendary Indonesian hotelier Mr. Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjino, the founder of the Sahid Hotel Group which operates 18 starred hotels located in 15 provinces of Indonesia and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Commenting following her election, Ms. Sukamdani pledged that her leadership of the Association will accommodate all interests. She also explained that her reign would pursue a three-point program focusing on service to the Association's members, strengthening the Organization, and increasing contact with both the people and the Government.
Ms. Sukamdani replaces Mr. Ponco Sutowo, the head of the Indonesian Hilton Group of Hotels who served as the PHRI Chairman for the past 12 years.
