In early April 2006, some 50 operational staff from Bali hotels participated in a one day intensive workshop on how to prevent the commercial sex exploitation of children within the tourism industry.
The training, presented by Child Wise Tourism of Australia and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), is designed to launch Indonesia as a pilot project to protect children from sexual exploitation resulting from tourism.
The training involving front line personnel from hotel security, bell boys, receptionists, housekeepers and drivers provides practical warning signs that will alert them to the signs of potential commercial sexual abuse of children by tourist visitors and how to report and prevent such activities.
