One of the world's most authoritative series of guide books is published by [ Insight Guides], offering comprehensive information on every corner of the world to millions of dedicated travelers. The books are invaluable tools for those seeking to truly experience a destination; filled with a wealth of practical information and, in keeping with their branding - "insights" from a team of acknowledged experts on each locale.
Perhaps less known, however, is the fact that the famous Insight Guides share a special affinity with the Island of Bali. Back in the 1970s, Hans Hofer, the founding publisher of Insight Guide Bali, published the first guide – an attractive pictorial guide to the Island. The book, like Bali, have become both runaway successes spawning an entire publishing empire that now stretches around the globe.
While Hans has since sold the Company, the "special relationship" with Bali continues. Just off the press – 36 years after the first edition – is the 2006 Insight Guide to Bali & Lombok. It's a most handsome edition; chock full of new insights and ideas on how to spend a holiday on the world's favorite holiday island. An all star cast of new writers contributed to the latest edition including: Balinese art expert Garret Kam; travel-writer Rachel Lovelock; www.balieats.com editor Kevin Bell with exhaustive information on Bali dining; and Barbara Lucas-Higgs who contributed information on Lombok. Still be found in the latest edition are contributions, too good to lose from past editions, by David Harnish, David Stuart-Fox, Debe Campbell, Ed Peters, Eric Oey, Fred Eiseman, John Darling, Made Wijaya, Mary Zurbuchen, Paul Zack, Rucina Ballinger, Star Black, Wendy Hutton and Willard A. Hanna.
Our initial review of the 2006 Insight Guide to Bali & Lombok gets 5 stars plus! While we pride ourselves on our comprehensive knowledge of Bali, the latest Insight guide left us pleasantly surprised in presenting intriguing new pieces of information and ideas on destinations we've yet to discover on an island we call home. We're certain that the excellent addition of a detachable map, tucked into the back cover, will prove a definite "winner" to those, like us, who now carry this book in our walk-about knapsack/
