The Bali Dog Show 2001 will be held in the field adjacent to the Grand Bali Beach Hotel, Sanur, October 7-8, 2001.
Recently acknowledged as an official breed, the Kintamani or Bali Mountain Dog is traditionally raised in the volcanic hill district after which they are named. Possibly descended from a Chinese chow breed, the Kintamani are characterized by their strong compact bodies and thick white coats. Unusual, in that endemic tropical breeds are not known for thick furry coats, Kintamani breeders insist that the best of breed must originate from certain hill villages where pups are kept in cool caves to encourage fur growth.
The Bali Dog Show will include seminars on various subjects, including how to keep Bali free of rabies and a contest among Kintamani's. Another contest will also provide a chance for the ubiquitous Bali Street Dog to compete.
Registration for breeders takes place through October 7 at the Secretariat of the Indonesian Association of Veterinarians (PDHI) at Jalan Angsoka 6, Kereneng, Denpasar.
