The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Indonesian Chapter has issued it's list of outstanding members of the community inducted into their Hall of Fame for 2001 in a special award ceremony held at the Hotel Darmawangsa in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 11. Ms. Elly Hutabarat, Chairperson of the PATA Chapter, explained the awards, saying, "these awards are given to those who have a deep concern and undertake concrete steps on behalf of the development of Indonesian tourism."
This year's recipients of the PATA Indonesia Chapter Hall of Fame awards:
Hall of Fame Award
Mr. Paul A. Blake - Employed in Indonesia's hotel industry since 1973, Mr. Blake served as opening General Manager of the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and currently heads the newly-opened Maya Ubud Resort.
Mrs. Astuti Kompiang - The owner of the Segera Village Hotel in Bali, Mrs. Kompiang plays a very active role in the promotion of Indonesia through the organization of numerous cultural missions abroad.
Travel Personality of the Year
Mr. Herman Rukmanadi - The Managing Director of Bhara Tours in Bandung, West Java, he started his career as a guide in 1982, progressing in his career to become the owner of his own tour company. Mr. Rukmanadi is well known for his untiring efforts to promote West Java tourism to the world market.
Ms. Susilawaty - The Managing Director of the VOC Galangan Cafe & Gallery located in the Sunda Kelapa port area of Old Jakarta. Ms. Susilawaty has been the driving force in the movement to revitalize Jakarta's old port area into a tourist destination within the capital city.
Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines were cited for their continuing support of all Indonesian tourism promotion activities, both within Indonesia and overseas.
Two non-profit tourism industry groups were also acknowledge by the PATA Indonesia Chapter during the awards ceremony. The Nature Club of the Indonesian Hotel & Restaurant Association (PHRI) were saluted for their commitment to preserving the natural environment. Meanwhile, Bali Village - an informal group of travel companies who have combined forces to promote Indonesia at various overseas travel-trade shows were also lauded.
