PELITA Air Expands Routes

PELITA Air Service have announced plans to commence service to a number of eastern Indonesia destination commencing October 1, 2001. Originally established by the state oil company, PERTAMINA, the carrier provided support services to the oil sector.

PELITA have announced services from Surabaya - Denpasar - Kupang, Denpasar - Maumere (Flores) - Kupang, Denpasar - Waingapu (Sumba) - Kupang, Denpasar - Labuanbajo, and Denpasar - Mataram (Lombok).

Commenting on the new services, Mr. Soeratman, a company director, said the airline "saw great potential in routes to Nusa Tenggara (eastern Indonesia)." He also said the airline hopes to help promote tourism and will work with local travel agencies in preparing tourism packages. Alliances are also being formed with other carriers to ease the reservation process.
