Plenty of Muscle in this Balinese Kitchen

3 Top Balinese Chefs from the Kayumanis Group Join Forces at a Special Dinner September 13 & 14, 2007 at 'the gangsa' in Sanur.

(8/20/2007)

Kayumanis Group continues its Chef Collaboration Series on two successive evenings this September at the gangsa - its Sanur property. Scheduled for September 13 & 14, 2007, the dinners will also serve to help celebrate the second anniversary of the popular boutique property.

Proud of its close connections to the Community of Sanur, the gangsa dinners will recreate a traditional village ambience. Guests will be treated to an evening of Balinese indulgence that nurtures the senses through a menu of tantalizing cuisine paired with fine wines and performances of rare gamelan music.

Chef Collaboration Dinners

The Chef Collaboration Dinners were launched in 2006 and have quickly become a much anticipated event on Bali's social and dining calendar. By showcasing the culinary expertise and vision of local chefs, the dinners prove that the island's evolving food & beverage industry is second to none.

the gangsa will welcome guests with an array of cocktails and canapés served in the garden adjacent to the Gong Restaurant. This preliminaries will be accompanied by classic Balinese music from members of the Sanggar Mekar Bhuana. This group of skilled musicians was formed to foster local arts and will perform a refined repertoire of Gender Wayang gamelan music in the Ubud and Sanur styles to set the mood for the remainder of the evening.

An exquisite four-course dinner will commence at 8:00 p.m. with an Italian salad created by Chef Denny of Kayumanis Nusa Dua, and follows with a zesty Indonesian soup prepared by Chef Setiawan from Kayumanis Jimbaran. As host of the evening, the gangsa's Chef Sonder has the honour to present a Balinese inspired main course that celebrates island fresh produce and indigenous herbs and spices. A sumptuous dessert from Chef Mustika of Kayumanis Ubud is a modern interpretation of a Thai sweet treat.

Specially Paired Wines

Each successive course of the evenings dinner will be paired by wine from Naked Range. A vibrant collection of boutique wines produced by Jansz Estate in Australia's renowned Yarra Valley, Naked Range Wines are acknowledged throughout the world for their exceptional quality vintages that add style and sophistication to any social occasion.

Throughout the evening, the Sanggar Mekar Bhuana will perform several pieces of seldom-heard Balinese music on the seven-tone Semara Pagulingan.Timeless tunes once reserved exclusively for Bali's royal courts, the members of Sanggar Mekar Bhuana are striving to safeguard this musical heritage for future generations.

As the evenings draws to a close, diners will have the opportunity to meet the three talented chefs and the members of the gamelan orchestra. Created to introduce guests to an excellent menu prepared by some of the island's rising culinary stars as well as give insight into classic Balinese music, this series of Chef Collaboration Dinners are about the passion of returning to one's cultural roots.

Cost & Reservations

The cost of the evening is Rp. 650.000 plus 21% tax and service (approximately US$84.50) including wine pairings.
