Good Women of China: Hidden Voices is a collection of female voices culled from the letters and calls of Chinese women who listened to a nightly radio show "Words on the Night Breeze" that played for seven years from 1989 in China. The show's host and the resulting book's author, Xinran Xue, shares harrowing stories of incest, rape, and abuse endured by her listeners. The stories she tells of natural and personal disaster are riveting; compelling tales of how these "good women" prevailed and thrived against overwhelming odds.
Xinran Xue Comes to Bali
As part of the lead up to the [Ubud's Writers and Readers Festival] to be held in Bali October 14-19, 2008, Xinran Xue will be the guest of honor at a special literary lunch at Ubud's Maya Resort & Spa on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. The Beijing-born broadcaster and journalist, who now lives in London, will share the stories of the lives of Chinese women under the Communist rule of Chairman Mao.
