The Lebaran Holiday period, which stretches for more than two weeks in the periods prior and post the Idul Fitri celebrations on October 1-2, 2008, will be the busiest travel period of the entire year in Bali and the rest of Indonesia.
In anticipation of the massive jump in air passengers, Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport will host 107 additional flights providing 17,550 more seat on Lion Air, Merpati Nusantara, Batavia Air and Garuda Indonesia.The General Manager of the airport operating authority PT Angkasa Pura I, Hero Legowo, told the press that Lion Air will add 15 flights with 2,700 seats; Merpati Nusantara will add 5 flights with 670 addition seats; Batavia Air will add 7 flights with 840 seats; and Garuda Indonesia will add 80 flights with a 13,340 seats.
The extra flights will be operated over a 14 day span covering the week before and after the Idul Fitri days.
During normal operating days Ngurah Rai International Airport welcomes 88 domestic flights and 73 international flights.
The airport authority will beef up its personnel on duty during the holiday period manning a special command post tent that will erected in the airport's parking lot and manned around the clock throughout the peak travel period.
