Chef Chris Salan's
Mozaic Restaurant Gastronomique in Bali has been voted
5th Best Restaurant in Asia by the
First International Miele Guide Awards. The latest honor joins a growing list of accolades, including membership in the world-famed
Traditions et Qualité – Les Grandes Tables du Monde, - sealing
Mozaic's status among the ranks of the best fine dining in Asia.
The Miele Guide - the first ranking of Asia's Top 20 Restaurants was launched in Singapore via a red carpet dinner event held at the
Grand Hyatt Singapore. The award ceremony was attended by 350 guests, comprising a veritable
who's who of Asia's culinary scene.
Mozaic's Chef Salans was invited to the event as a guest chef, surprising diners with a range of creative dishes. Joining efforts in the kitchen with Cehf Salans were Chef Li Shu Tim of
One Harbour Road at
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, Chef Sufian Zain of
Iggy's in Singapore.
Commenting on the award, Chef Salans said: "It is an honor for Mozaic to reach the top 5, along such great names as Iggy's, Robuchon, Les Amis and Gunther's. Our team in Bali is absolutely thrilled to see our work recognized in a guide which is published independently, free of advertising and which allows votes from the public and professionals. On a personal note it is an honor for me to be able to participate in the promotion of Indonesia, putting Bali on the world map of gastronomic destinations."
In determining the Top 20 restaurants in Asia,
The Miele Guide conducted four rigorous rounds of selection and judging by a panel of 84 of the most respected restaurant critics and food writers from 16 countries in Asia. Then, over a period of 10 weeks, over 15,000 registered voters from 40 countries, cast 75,000 votes for the restaurants they consider Asia's best via an online poll.
This year, restaurants in 16 Asian countries were evaluated—Brunei, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
The resulting guide retails at US$15 and is now available at major bookstores throughout Asia and Australia.
