The governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika, is urging those in charge of the coming 2009 general elections in Indonesia to actively promote the democratic process in Indonesia in order to raise the image of Bali as a safe and attractive tourism destination.
As reported by Tempo Interactive, Pastika told the National Elections Committee (KPU) that, "the election must be welcomed with joy, not fear."
The Bali chairman of the KPU, Lanang Perbawa, welcomed the governor's statement saying that current plans are for competing politicians to not only give speeches but to also sponsor cultural performances.
