A Christmas Gift Suggestion for the Person who Already Has Everything.

(11/17/2009)

Consider this a "Dear Santa" letter from everyone at Balidiscovery.com.

As you prepare for the coming holidays and reflect on life's many blessing and occasional tribulations, we have a gift suggestion that will make a world of difference to the recipient and give to you a wonderful fuzzy feeling from Chritsmas past when you couldn't wait for Mom or Dad to open the present that you pondered over for ages before finally making way to the store's cashier.

Reflecting over those years now past, it truly was the thought that counted most. If you try, you might still be able to recall how you danced with glee when Mom or Day feigned absolute delight as they opened that half-liter bottle of eau de toilette.

But, years pass and the special joy that is the preserve of children at Christmas gets tempered with the real knowledge that for many, Christmas day is merely another day in a life filled with far too many challenges and disappointments.

In an effort to rekindle the true spirit of the holiday, our Christmas wish is that many of you who subscribe to Bali Update or visit balidiscovery.com will set aside a small amount of your precious cash to make a tangible difference in the lives of the Balinese people helped by The John Fawcett Foundation.

Here's some practical suggestions we'd like you to add to your Christmas list:

• For just Rp. 200,000 or less than US$20 you can make possible important medical treatment for a member of one of the many families cared for by The John Fawcett Foundation.

• For Rp. 450,000 or less than US$45 you can cover the cost of a sight-restoring cataract operation performed by the Foundation's team of volunteer doctors who traverse Bali and Lombok in their fully equipped mobile eye hospital.

• For Rp. 3.6 million or less than US$350 you can bestow the priceless gift of literally putting a smile on a small child's face by covering the cost of a cleft lip or cleft palate operation for a Balinese child.

Santa's watching, remembering each of you who take the time to be nice! So, we hope you'll find the time to make a direct gift to The John Fawcett Foundation or make a donation as a gift in the name of someone special to you.

And, while few things are certain in the troubled world, you'll know that this award-winning foundation will put your donation to critical need and, because of your generosity, a Balinese child will re-enact your joyful dance of glee on Christmas morning 2009.
