While Bali is home to many foreign artists, Eva Schumy stands out among Bali artists for being both Hungarian-born and a woman. Born and raised in Budapest, she was educated at the Fine Art Academy in Hungary's capital. Fulfilling a life-long wish, she moved to Bali in 2006 settling outside Ubud drawing on the island for inspiration for her drawings and paintings.

The resulting body of work shares many of her Balinese experiences, situations, people and the difficulties encountered when a Westerner sets down roots in a foreign culture.
Adding to the already rich tapestry of an artistic life, Eva Schumy eventually met and married a man from a distinguished Balinese family with whom she gave birth to a baby boy.
Her growing emotional and familial ties with her adopted home and Balinese family provided rich fodder for the resulting works of art.
Eva's obvious abilities as a highly-talented and well-trained illustrator and painter are at home expressing the beauty and the occasional darkness of this "paradise island." Her art is gripping, sometimes sharp, with little room for romantic and tourism-orientated views on this island and its people. Any stark reality in her art is tempered by the deep affection she feels for Bali and her Balinese family.
Eva's art is unique, original and expressive – possessed of the skill to touch her viewers' hearts and minds."You Can't Stop Me"
