Charged with smuggling 2.4 kilograms of heroin into Indonesia, Carolina Sarmiento Bautista (41), a Philippine citizen, now faces the possibility of 15 years in a Bali prison.

As reported by Kompas.com, the public prosecutor Ida Ayu Sulasmi told the panel of judges hearing the case that Carolina has been proven guilty of illegally importing a Class I narcotic into Indonesia following her arrest by Customs Officials at Bali's airport on July 12, 2010.

The woman told police that she received the drugs from an Indian with instructions to deliver the drugs to a many in Jakarta in return for a payment of US$1,000.

In a separate case also being heard at the Denpasar Court, a 19-year-old American, Patrick Leland Berg, has heard prosecutors ask for 12 years imprisonment after being caught with only 0.16 gram of marijuana in his possession. He was arrested on June 28, 2010, while reporting smoking the marijuana together with a 21-year-old Dutch national Leon Vrielink and a 19-year-old German Mischa Karsen.
