Each November, wine enthusiasts in Bali join their counterparts around the globe, in the annual Dionysusian welcome of the freshly crushed grapes of Beaujolais nouveau perennially rushed with great pomp, ceremony and speed to cafes and restaurants.
While the debate will never end on whether or not Beaujolais nouveau is a clever blend of Beaujolais grapes or an even more clever marketing ploy, the heralding of the new vintage has become a fixture on the calendars of those who need scant excuse to gather over glasses of wine and French culinary specialties.
George Duboef's 2010 Vintage report lauds the 2010 vintage of Beaujolais nouveauas being "full of charm and character – a quintessential Primeur." The question as to whether or not any Beaujolais nouveau improves with age shall, however, forever remain a mystery - such is the speed and alacrity with which each new vintage is quaffed into extinction.
Bali's Comité des Fêtes du Consulat de France- this year in partnership with Hotel The Royal Beach Seminyak, IFCCI (Franco-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce) and Indoguna - has confirmed that this year's edition of Beaujolais nouveau will "land" in Bali on Friday, November 26, 2010, when the celebration will be held at the Hotel The Royal Beach Seminyak (the former Sofitel) on Jalan Camplung Tanduk, Seminyak-Kuta.
The festivities begin at 8:00 pm with a traditional French-style buffet. Participants who pay Rp. 380,000 (US$41.50) will enjoy the lavish French buffet and 2 glasses of Beaujolais nouveau.
