A magical start to 2011 is promised to visitors to the Ubud Botanic Garden on Saturday, January 1, 2011, where a celebratory "New Year Orchid House Concert 2011" will be held.

The featured artist for the evening will be Bali-based Anello "Lalloji" Capuano who will be joined by talented musical friends for a concert starting at 7:00 pm.

The evening's program will be based on original compositions by Capuano whose unique musical journey has equipped him to blend both the instruments and styles of Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, India, China, Japan and Indonesia.

An accomplished musician in each of these diverse musical genres, Capuano moves seamlessly from plucking lutes, wielding Persian hammered zither Santur, playing a mystical sounding Indian flute, and beating out rhythms on percussion instruments from North Africa and beyond. Solo virtuosity combined with pre-recorded orchestral accompaniments bring new nuances to the label "one man band" when Capuano plays.

The results are truly mesmerizing with an demonstrated ability to bring listeners to a surreal cross-cultural plane of unusual exotic rhythms and sounds, updated with the exciting dynamics of Blues and Jazz, yet retaining throughout the meditative spiritual quality so specific to many of the ancient melodic forms of the East.

The Amazing Anello "Lalloji" Capuano

A musician who has mastered an entire orchestra of African, Indian, Middle Easter and Asia instruments – Annello Capuano also works as a producer, a composer and an arranger in the field of ancient, oriental, fusion and improvised music. A comedian trained in the tradition of the Commedia dell'Arte he has worked as a stage-director, costume-designer and make-up artist. He also paints, draws and write poetry and short stories when not lending his hand to jewelry and furniture design.

His world-wide explorations into music have been nurtured by Capuano's skills as a goldsmith, a trade he learned while traveling and studying music in Rajasthan.

Capuano loves all things driven by creativity, imagination and passion. His biography says: "he dislikes carelessness, hypocrisy, narrow-minded people and old French Camembert, but definitely likes a sense of humor, palm-trees, imagination, Mediterranean and Indian cuisine, fairness, all the wonders of Nature and being in love."

The fun with Capuano begins at 7:00 pm sharp on Saturday, January 1, 201 at the Ubud Botanic Garden on Jalan Tirta Tawar, only 2 kilometers from Ubud's Main Street.

Concert tickets cost Rp. 100,000 (US$10.90) and can be obtained at:
