Tempo Interactive confirms that Bali spends at least Rp. 5.7 billion (US$633,000) every four months on rabies vaccinations for the island's dog population.
The first stage of vaccinations was undertaken by the Bali Animal Welfare Group (BAWA) with assistance from the World Animal Society Protection Group.
It is not clear who will fund the subsequent rounds of vaccination needed to eliminate the disease from the island.
Said Janice Giradi, BAWA director, "We are hoping the government will cover the costs."
