The Denpasar District Court continues to met out heavy sentences to Bali visitors convicted with narcotic violations.
Two Nigerian men, Austine Bosah Uchena (39) and Michael Onyedika Onuorah (24) were both sentenced to 18 years behind bars and fined Rp. 2 billion (US$230,000) each for attempting to smuggle two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine through Bali's airport on July 13, 2009.
Being tried separately are another three people - one Filipino and two Indonesian nationals - accused of being part of the same syndicate as Uchena and Onuorah
In a the trial the Filipino woman, Beverly A. Fulache earned a 16 year sentence while an Indonesian female accomplice was sentenced to 11 years.
Fulache was found guilty of importing 2.087 kilograms of shabu – shabu. The woman was also levied a fine of Rp. 2 billion (US$230) with failure to pay to result in an additional sentence of one year added to her 16 year sentence.
Enny Mailini convicted of being an accomplice in the drug smuggling effort was sentenced to 11 years in prison and a fine of 2 billion. (US$230,000).
Beverly was arrested on July 13, 2919 with a suitcase full of crystal methamphetamine at Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport.
Police discovered the Filipino's plan to bring the narcotics to Jakarta where she was to deliver the contraband to Enny Malini. With police laying in wait, Malini was arrested by police in front of an ATM machines in West Java with a large quantity of Shabu Shabu in her possession on July 14, 2011.
