Aston Bali Beach Resort & Spa recently held a unique fund-raising evening that netted more than Rp. 20 million (US$2,200) for a local orphanage and provided a night of excellent food and entertainment enjoyed by both the children of the orphanage and more than 100 guests and friends of the hotel.
The event held on Friday, March 25, 2011, was in support of
The Dharma Jati II Hindu Orphanage. Founded in 1985, the Denpasar orphanage provides 120 children with a formal education and a nurturing home environment . Conscious of its Balinese roots, the children are also taught cultural and artistic skills, including instruction in traditional music, dance and martial arts.
The fund-raising evening opened at 6:30 pm with a performance by a Balinese
gamelan followed by a sumptuous Balinese dinner, a fashion show and musical entertainment. Attendees witnessed a traditional
Barong Dance performance, a
Puspawresti Dance and
Gopala Dance presentation by the children of the orphanage, the children's choir who sang in three languages and a fashion shown by Madame Moun - a French clothing designer.
Adding to the evening's fun, the designer clothing were modeled by members of the staff from the
Aston Bali Beach Resort and Spa followed by a unique auction in which the outfits were sold to the audience.
The night concluded with the presentation of the funds raised over the course of the evening to the founder of the orphanage, "Pak" Wayan.
