A Basis to Move Ahead

As reported by balidiscovery.com, the underpass project at the Simpang Siur intersection in Bali has been threatened with delay by the inability to find detailed engineering drawings for the Dewa Ruci Monument which stands only a few meters from the  planned underpass construction [See: Seeking a Firm Foundation] .

Nusa Bali reports that those charged with preparing the underpass project have now found the missing drawings and have received the needed approval for the underpass project from the National Land Agency (BPN).

The man in charge of road projects for Bali and regions to the east, Susalit Alius, said, "We will certainly find it easier to protect the monument so it will not fall during the underpass' construction now that the drawings and explanation from the original builders are in hand."

There is still some remaining obstacle for the project to move ahead, chief of which is the acquisition of the land needed to building the underpass. He also said plans were still being discussed on how to minimize disruptions to traffic during the actual construction of the project.

The numerous difficulties encountered to date will admittedly set the planned project's commencement back from June to August 2011. Despite the setbacks, the project managers are still optimistic that work can be completed by June 2013, in time for the APEC Ministerial Conference scheduled for later that year.
