The Fifth Annual Biznet Bali International Triathlon returns to Jimbaran Bay on Sunday, June 26, 2011, with a record number of international athletes expected to participate on an individual and team basis in the either the Olympic-distance or sprint-distance events.
The winner of numerous awards and dubbed the "triathlon for the soul" – the Biznet Bali International Triathlon is a community-based event in which participants swim in the tropical waters of Jimbaran bay, and cycle and run through Nusa Dua and the roadways of Bali's Ungasan peninsula.
The event is comprised of three separate components: The Olympic distance race begins with a 1.5 km swim, followed by a 42 km bike race and ending with 10 km run; the Sprint race begins with 500m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run; and team relays done by 3 athletes starts at 7 a.m.
While the serious racers are hard at work, a 5 km Fun Run will also be held. Popular among local resident, staff members of the Bali Hotel Association (BHA) and visiting novice runners, a special draw prize has been added this year of a free round-trip ticket to Australia on Virgin Australia that will be given to one lucky fun-runners.
While valuable prizes are on tap for winners in all divisions of the race provided by Bali hotels and businesses, another round-trip ticket form Virgin Australia will also be given to the best Indonesian time in the full marathon division.
“The race is experiencing an increase of more than 25 percent in participants this year, compared to 2010, it is expected to attract over 600 athletes from 15 different countries as well as a thousand of spectators watching the race”, says Andreas Kansil, Event Director of Fifth Annual Biznet Bali International 2011.
The title sponsor for this year's race is Biznet Networks, one the leading telecommunication provider in Indonesia, delivering Network, Internet, Hosting and Cloud Computing services. In Indonesia, Biznet has laid more than 1,700 of fiber optic route to deliver Broadband Internet and Local Loop services. Biznet Technovillage is currently under construction; it is a 15,000 square meter office and Tier-3 data center facility in Cibubur, West Java.
Joining Biznet Networks as sponsors of the triathlon in 2011 are the Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay, the Bali InterContinental Resort and AYANA Resort and Spa Bali. Marking the race as a truly Jimbaran event, the Four Seasons will serve as "Race Central" - hosting the starting and finish line for the race as well as welcoming sun downer and the party on the beach at "Coconut Grove" on race morning. Next door, the Bali InterContinental is home to the exciting transition area between the three components of the race. Bali's luxurious AYANA Resort and Spa Bali is hosting the official farewell sunset cocktails on the evening on Sunday, June 26, 2011. All three hotels have provided valuable financial support to the event and lavish prizes to winners.

The winner of 2009 and 2010 race in the women category, Michelle Mitchell, will be making her return in this year’s race. Mitchell, who just recently became a professional Triathlete, stated, “Since racing in Bali last year, my triathlon has been going really well. I love the Triathlon for the Soul and my husband and I are really looking forward to making it back again this year.” Mitchell will be joined by the Indonesian Olympic swimming legend Richard Sam Bera. The Brand Ambassador of Speedo Indonesia and the third finisher in the Indonesian category last year spoke highly of the race and pointed out “Bali International Triathlon has always been more than just a tri-race. It’s must-do yearly race for me to see what I can do, in one of the most beautiful place on earth.” Another notable entry in the race is the famous multi-talented Indonesian pop singer Denada Tambunan who will also be joining Bera and Mitchell in the Olympic distance race of 1.5K swim race, 40K race bike and 10K running.
Biznet Bali International Triathlon continues to make a positive economic impact to the island of Bali, specifically in Jimbaran. The race brings substantial business to Bali hotels and restaurants, the people of Jimbaran have been steadfast in demonstrating their support year after year.
