As reported on Balidiscovery.com [Shoeless in Paradise] , a group of dedicated Bali residents with no “soles” but plenty of “soul” have spent the month of June 2011 walking barefoot across the island to raise awareness and funds for the plight of Indonesia’s homeless children.
Robert Epstone, Beat Schmid de Guneck, Daniel Chieppa and his family tread the width and breadth of the island before finishing a more than 500 km walk on the beach in front of the Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel on Sunday, July 3, 2011.
By the time the group finished their trip no less than 12 people had joined them on their humanitarian sojourn that took them to Bali’s far northern shore and back again to the south.
Along the way the group met with community groups, assisted homeless children, gave press interviews and even undertook clean-up campaigns. Welcomed enthusiastically wherever they walked, Balinese living in the most humble of circumstances freely shared homes and food with the group of walkers committed to “keep on walking” until they raise US$1 million for the street children of Indonesia.
At the finish line on Sunday, enthusiastic supporters welcomed the walkers back to the island's south while a free concert by the legendary Balinese rock group Superman is Dead
