Bali Post tells how a 25-year-old Russian tourist, identified only by the initials SGO, has bee apprehended by local residents and turned over to police after being caught “red handed” in the act of stealing a bicycle.
SGO, who is staying in accommodation on Jalan Uluwatu in the Ungasan area of South Bali, stole the pushbike of a John Umbu (20) from Jalan Drupadi, Gang Pudak No. 6, in Seminyak in the early hours of Sunday, July 24, 2011.
As the consequence of his acts, SGO is now occupying a holding cell at the Kuta Police Station where detective continue to question the man.
The chief of the Kuta precinct, I Gede Ganefo, confirmed the man’s arrest. The theft took place at 3:00 a.m.on the Sunday morning after the thief broke a lock and steel chain securing the bike. Perhaps indicating the ill effects of an extended visit at local nightspots, Ganefo revealed, “funny, but after he had the bicycles in his possession he proceeded to smash it.”
The Russian tourists criminal antics did not go unnoticed. Local residents stopped him after he had traveled only 300 meters, later turning the thief over to the the Kuta Police Station.
