(4/7/2012)
With a little more than two months remaining until the sixth edition of the BIZNET Bali International Triathlon, preparations are in full swing for Bali’s hosting of three simultaneous events - the Olympic Distance Event, half-triathlon of 5-kilometer fun run to be held on Sunday, June 24, 2012.
With bookings keeping pace with last year’s record attendance, the 2012 edition of the event will see many changes to accommodate the growing popularity of a sport that sees individual and teams of athletes compete in a sport that combines swimming, cycling and running.
Course Changes
One of the most evident changes in the 2012 event will be changes in the races routes.
- Relocation of the transition area to the Bali InterContinental Resort will remove the narrow and sometime crowded feeder roads to the beach. Cyclists and runners will now leave the transitional area as they emerge directly onto the Jalan Uluwatu thoroughfare that connects to the Ngurah Rai Bypass highway.
- In cooperation with government authorities from the Badung Regency, local administration across south Bali and police officials one-half of the Bypass between the Jimbaran intersection (McDonalds/Kentucky Fried Chicken) and the back access road to Nusa Dua will be closed to regular traffic. Vehicle traffic traveling between Nusa Dua and the Airport will be channeled into a two-way flow using the west lane of the highway. Cyclists will no longer travel through the crowded roadways of the Ungasan Peninsula.
