Giving Bali’s Nightspots a Could Shoulder

Call for Nightspots Along Bali’s Ngurah Rai Bypass to Stop Guests Parking on Roadside

Bali News: Giving Bali’s Nightspots a Could Shoulder

(10/7/2012)

A member of the Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD-Bali) is calling on nightspots along the busy Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, stretching from the Ngurah Rai Airport to Sanur, to stop using the shoulder of the road for visitor parking.

Making the call is Wayan Rawan Atmaja who was quoted in Bali Post saying he has received many complaints from the public. “The cars can be parked on the side of the road for as far as one kilometre whenever there is a special event or concert by a Jakarta artists,” he complained.

The legislator from the Benoa area of South Bali continued, saying: “I am asking the relevant government agencies to take all necessary steps because the street side parking represents a danger to road users, especially on roads that are already congested.

Atmaja, who also serves as the treasurer of Commission IV of the DPRD-Bali, called on the nightspots to obey all local regulations and not be guilty of acts that despoil the public interest. He used the opportunity to remind nightspot operators to increase attention to security, calling on all operators to heed past reports of violence and even homicides at some late night entertainment spots in Bali.

Bali’s zoning law stipulate that hotels, restaurants and nightspots must provide adequate off-street parking facilities for their customers.
