The National News Agency Antara reports that exports by Bali’s cottage industries declined 18.3% in 2002, down from US$192.12 million in 2011 to US$157.02 million in 2012.
The chief spokesman for the province of Bali, I Ketut Teneng, the decline in handicraft exports was due to economic recession and declining demand.
Although on the decline, the cottage industry sector in Bali contributed 32.6% to Bali total export earnings of US$481.83 million in 2012.
Textiles, garments, footwear and handbags dominate Bali’s handicrafts exports. Major destination markets are the U.S.A., Australia, Singapore and the European Union.
