During the 24-hours of official silence on Nyepi Day, March 12, 2013, some 169 flights to and from Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport were cancelled costing PT Angkasa Pura I - the airport's manager, an estimated Rp. 1.5 billion (US$150,000) in passenger service charges collected from departing passengers
The 169 flights were cancelled between midnight on Monday, March 11 until 1:00 am local time on Wednesday morning.
Quoted in Bisnis.com, Farid Nugraha, a spokesman for PT Angkasa Pura I, explained that the closure of the airport for 24-hours to honor the Bali-Hindu New Year.
The Rp. 1.5 billion lost in passenger service charges does not include the additional loss in revenue for landing and parking fees paid by the airlines.
