Responding to statements from the central government expressing a desire to build an international-standard soccer stadium in Bali, governor Made Mangku Pastika has restated his commitment to develop sports tourism in Bali.
As reported by Beritabali.com, Pastika said a sports stadium in Bali is a long-standing desire of his government. “Actually, the provincial government of Bali wants to develop several stadium in Bali through new building and renovation programs in order that Bali can become a sports tourism destination,” said the Governor on Tuesday, April 9, 2013.
Pastika revealed that the provincial government had once requested Rp. 90 billion (US$9 million) from Jakarta for the renovation of several stadiums in Bali. In the Governor’s view, renovated stadiums would become venues for sporting contests and entertainment programs.
According to Pastika, the earlier request for funding from Jakarta was not approved.
Pastika welcomes the stated desire of Indonesia’s Minister of Sports Roy Suryo to build an international standard sport stadium in Bali and hopes such a facility could be built soon.
The governor would like to see such facilities be built in a way that it could serve a multitude of functions.
