The custom’s official caught on video and published on YouTube accepting a bribe from Dutch journalist Kees van der Spek is being threatened with dismissal from his government position.
According to Kompas.com, the official, currently only identified with the letter “F”, has been relieved of his day-to-day duties at the airport.
Rachmad Subagio, the head of the Ngurah Rai Airport Customs Office, said at a press conference on Friday, April 19. 2013: “As soon as this case surfaced, our first step was to remove the suspect from the workplace. Secondly, as soon as he was suspended we began an internal review.”
The results of a preliminary examination show that “F” may be guilty of a serious violation of Regulation Number 55 of 2010 on Civil Servant Discipline.
“The punishment in accordance with Rule Number 55 can be light, medium or severe. The suspect may be guilty of a severe violation that can result in a non-honorable termination,” said Subagio.
Before taking a final decision. Rachmad is waiting for a report on the incident from an internal audit team who has interviewed the suspect.
“F” was one subject in one of a series of sub rosa video reports uploaded by van der Spek to YouTube catching dishonest Bali traffic policemen, crooked money changers and a bribe-compliant customs officer.
