Bali’s chief of police, Inspector General Arif Wachyunadi, told Kompas.com that extensive coordination is underway to ensure the smooth runing of the coming Miss World 2013 competition taking place in Bali.
Working together with the Kodam IX Udayana Bali Military Command, the Bali police have deployed a large number personnel to ensure the Miss World Contest proceeds smoothly and without interruption.
“Yesterday we held a coordination meeting that everyone attended. The people of Bali are prepared to be good hosts for this event. The Police are prepared to safeguard it,” said General Wachyunadi while attending the inauguration of the governor and deputy-governor of Bali at the Bali House of Representatives on Thursday, August 29, 2013.
The police chief is, however, unable to confirm the exact number of personnel to be deployed, a fact that will only be determined later depending on actual conditions in the field.
The Miss World Competition has drawn strong criticism from Islamist religious elements, mainly from outside Bali, who have called on the government to cancel the event. Somewhat surprisingly, Indonesia's Minister of Religion, has also joined the chorus calling for the event's cancellation, despite offcial government support of the event.
