An American living in Bali suffered injuries on Thursday, September 5, 2013, as the result of an encounter with two purse-snatchers who grabbed her bag on Jalan Gunung Salak in Denpasar.
Cynthia Maria Alfatt (33) was dragged for approximately fifteen-meters when she resolutely held on to her handbag being torn away from her by two men on a motorbike.
The theft happened at 11:00 pm when Alfatt was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle driven by husband.
A motorcycle carrying the purse-snatchers came along side the victim’s bike as the thieves snatch the woman’s bag, dragging her along the road in the process.
Alfatt told police she suffered various cuts and contusions in addition to losing items worth an estimated Rp. 15 million.
The victim is a teacher at a school in Bali.
Lost in the theft were 2 credit cards, an iPhone 4S, iPod and a wallet containing identification and important documents.
According to the police, the thieves have already used one of the credit cards to make a transaction worth Rp. 6 million.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
