Bali to End 2013 with 3.2 million Visitors

Bali by the Numbers: July 2013 Arrivals to Bali Increase 15% as Australian Number Begin to Wane

Foreign tourist arrivals to Bali for the month of July 2013 totaled 297,783. That total was 15% more than the 258,781 foreign visitors who came to Bali in the same month in 2012.

 
On a cumulative basis for the first seven months of 2013, a total of 1,790,804 foreign tourists came to Bali, an increase of 9.96% over the first seven months of 2012 when 1,628,539 foreign tourists came to Bali.

If the current 9.96% rate-of-growth is maintained through the end of 2013, Bali will end the year with 3.18 million foreign visitors.
 
Major Markets
 
Australia – the Australian market to Bali is losing steam. Month-on-month Australia arrivals to Bali in July 2013 (75,797) are down 15.7% from July 2013 (89,930). On a cumulative basis January – July Australian visitors stand at 459,272, down 2.14% from the first seven months of 2012.
 
People’s Republic of China – Coming in at a distant second as a source of foreign visitors to Bali, but growing rapidly, is the PRC market that totaled 39,035 in July 2013. Month-on-month PRC arrivals increased 78.9% in July over July 2012 (21,818). Cumulatively, year-on-year for the first seven months of 2013 PRC arrivals have increased 22.58%.
 
Japan – Once the number one source of foreign visitors to Bali, Japan now ranks third. The good news is that the high-spending and culturally interested Japanese are staging a modest comeback. July arrivals from Japan totaled 17,840 – a 10.7% decrease from the 19,980 Japanese who came to Bali in July 2012. On an aggregate basis for January-July 2013 Japanese arrivals are improving, up12.17% as compared to the same period 2012.
 
Malaysia – Now ranks in fourth place as a source of Bali visitors. Month-on-month, Malaysian visitors in July 2013 (12,120) were a concerning 40.4% behind July 2012 (20,338). Malaysian visitor to Bali – seen on cumulative basis – have gone flat with only 1.16% more Malaysia visiting Bali in the first seven months of 2013 when compared to the same period last year.
 
South Korea – 12,614 South Koreans came to Bali in July 2013, that's a 37.4% improvement over July 2012 (9,181). Seen cumulatively for the first seven months of 2013 South Korean arrivals are up 2.69% at 73,184.
 
Taiwan – Taiwan is staging a comeback. Taiwanese visitors to Bali in July 2013 totaled 16,337 - an improvement month-on-month of 230% over the 4,951 Taiwanese who visited Bali in July 2012. On a cumulative basis, Taiwanese visitor have increased 26,86% during the first seven months of 2013 as compared to the same period in 2012.
 
Singapore – Bali remains a preferred holiday destination for Singaporeans suffering from island fever. Singapore arrivals to Bali in July 2013 totaled 8,979 down 11.8% from Singaporean arrivals in July 2012 (10.035). Year-on-year for the first seven months of 2013, Singapore arrivals totaled 71,814 – increasing 10.27% over the same period one year before.

European, Indian  and U.S. Visitors to Bali Turn in a Very Strong July
 
United Kingdom – U.K. visitors to Bali increased dramatically month-on-month in July 2013 totaling 12,108. That’s 30.1% higher than the 9,306 who visited in July 2012. Year-on-year, 63,915 British nationals visited Bali during the first seven months of 2013 - a decrease of 2.11% over the number visiting during the same period in 2012.
 
France – French visitors to Bali in July 2013 reached 15,531 visitors, an increase month-on-month of 70.5% over visitors from France in July 2012 (9,107).  Year-on-year ending July 2013, Russian visitors totaled 62,108 – an increase of 12.79% over January-July 2012.
 
USA – July 2013 saw 9,108 U.S. visitors come to Bali, up 11.3% over the 8,106 Americans who came to the Island in July 2012. On a cumulative basis for the first seven months of 2013, U.S. visitors increased 8.28% totaling 58,998.
 
Germany – German visitors month-on-month increased 97.4% in July 2013 (10,225) as compared to July 2012 (5,179). On a cumulative basis through the end of July, German visitors to Bali have increased 20.58%.
 
Russia – Russian visitors increased 69.1% month-on-month in July with 4,358 visitors. On a cumulative basis for the first seven months of 2013, Russian visitors are up 11.11%.
 
The Netherlands – Reflecting a trend of strong European travel to Bali in July 2013, a total of 9.599 Dutch visitors came to Bali an increase of 88% over the 5,106 Dutch who visited in July 2012. On a cumulative basis year-on-year until the end of July, Dutch visitors were up 11.67%.
 
India – The Indian market continues to demonstrate strong growth. The 5,767 Indian who came to Bali in July 2013 represented an increase of 249%over the 1,651 Indian nationals who visited the Island in July 2012. For the seven months ending in July 2013, Indian visitors are up 37.12% year-on-year.
 
Arrivals by Geographical Areas
 
The strongest growth in traffic to Bali during the first seven months of 2013 – in order of strongest growth - was from the America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
