The State News Agency Antara reports that the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Dahlan Iskan has confirmed that the often-postponed inauguration of Bali’s new toll road will now finally take place on Monday, September 23, 2013.
Referring to the Presidential visit to Bali to open the new road, Dahlan said, “SBY is planning to personally inaugurate the Bali toll road."
According to the BUMN Minister, the official opening of the road will take place one week before the APEC Summit scheduled to take place October 1-8, 2013 in Bali.
Confirming that he has personally inspected the new 12.7-kilometer road on a number of occasions, Dahlan added: “Everything is according to schedule. Moreover, the completion of the road was even faster than anticipated. The paving and installation of road markers, toll booths and lighting is now completed.”
Safety testing and roadworthiness evaluations were undertaken in mid-July 2013.
The construction of the highway suspended over mangrove forests and Benoa Bay was undertaken by a project consortium comprised of a number State-owned companies: PT Jasa Marga Bali, PT Pelindo III, PT Angkasa Pura I, PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Bali, PT Wijaya Karya, PT Adhi Karya and PT Hutama Karya.
The new toll road is also equipped with wind speed monitors, CCTV cameras and separate lanes for motorcycle traffic.
Less than one-week prior to its formal commissioning, the official name of the new toll road remains a well-kept secret.
