A 23-year-old Philippine woman, Megan Young, has won the coveted Miss World
title announced in the final round broadcast to 180 nations from Bali on Saturday, September 28, 2013.
Pledging in the final question round to “be the best Miss World ever,” Megan won out over 9 other top-ten finalists from Ghana, Jamaica, Spain, Indonesia, England, Nepal, France, Australia and Brazil.
International and Indonesian viewers were treated to an impressive stage number from Indonesia and a very moving moment when all contestants joined voices to sing the Indonesian national anthem “Indonesian Raya.”
Vania Larissa from Indonesia ranked 7th overall in the final selection from among a field of 127 contestants.
The gala final evening came off smoothly despite threats of possible disruption by Islamic extremists whose threats compelled an eleventh hour switch of the final evening from West Java to the Island of Bali.
The Bali final represented the 63rd running of the Miss World Competition
that saw Miss World 2012
Yu Wenxia of China pass the crown to her Pilipino successor.
