As part of the unprecedented level of precautions being put into place for the APEC Conference in Bali October 1-8, 2013, residents in Kuta and Nusa Dua will be prohibited from flying kites during that period.
Kite flying is a popular pastime on the Island of Bali.
Lt. Col. Kadek Arya, in charge of VVIP security for the APEC Conference, told Beritabali.com that a number of daily activities in Bali would be altered or eliminated to enhance safety.
“Not only will access be limited to the Nusa Dua area where the Summit is being held, but other activities surrounding that location will be controlled,” explained Arya on Monday, September 30, 2013.
Arya is urging people living in Kuta and Nusa Dua to halt all kite flying activities during the APEC conference. Also included in the ban are parasailing and aero-modeling.
Arya said the ban on activities utilizing Bali’s “air space” is needed to avoid possible accidents with aircraft or the inappropriate use of these activities as a front for more nefarious terrorist activities.
