Ranae Lawrence, a member of the “Bali Nine” drug smuggling ring, once touted as a model prisoner at Bali’s Kerobokan Prison, could face more jail time after prison officials discovered a hand phone with text messages plotting a double murder and a knife in her cell.

The cell phone was uncovered during a routine raid conducted by prison officials that netted 52 cell phones. Prisoners are not permitted to own or operate personal communication devices.

Lawrence’s phone contained messages exchanged with another female prisoner, convicted child kidnapper Joaninha Maria Sonia Gonzales, plotting to murder two guards at the prison.

In the messages, Lawrence urged Sonia to kill two female guards.

The Jakarta Globe says the prison warden has confirmed that Lawrence confessed to the plot.

Lawrence has been immediately moved to a prison facility in Jembrana while Sonia, a native of East Timor, has been relocated to a prison in Gianyar.

Prison officials have elected not to charge the two women with murder conspiracy, handling the matter only as a violation of prison rules. Lawrence and Sonia may, however, lose future and past cuts in their sentences and the loss of privileges (for Lawrence) earned by acting as a model prisoner and section coordinator at Kerobokan

Sonia Gonzales kidnapped a 2-year-old French child from a Bali hotel and threatened reporters covering her trial. According to the prison warden, Lawrence – an avowed Lesbian – sent an SMS to Sonia ordering the murder, saying, "Use the knife, use the metal chains (chains wrapped around your fist.” Sonia later answered by SMS, saying: "Yes Daddy, I will do anything you say. I am used to going in and out of prisons. You only die once."

Lawrence’s quick relocation from the prison has reportedly also revealed her involvement in extortion of other female prisoners who are now coming forward to tell the Prison Warden of Lawrence’s menacing behavior and abuse towards fellow prisoners

The prison warden, Gusti Ngurah Wiratna, claims he was betrayed by Lawrence who he treated as a daughter and who he now depicts as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

The Warden is now reportedly exploring if recent sentence cuts given to Lawrence can be revoked.
