Good News from Perth

Australian Surfer Matt Scarff Attacked in Bali Improving in a Perth Hospital

(12/6/2013) The 41-year-old Australian surf instructor, Matt Scarff, who was sucker-punched at a Bali Bar on November 15, 2013, underwent emergency surgery in Bali, and was medically evacuated to Perth where he underwent further surgery, has been awoken by from a medically induced coma.

Evacuated by air ambulance from Bali on November 20th, Scarff was transferred to Royal Perth Hospital to undergo further life-saving surgery.

He was brought out of a medically induced coma on November 28, thirteen days after the incident in which a man, believed to be from  the U.K., punched Scraff in the face outside a Kerobokan nightspot.

The Australian man remains in intensive care where his condition is said to be improving.

The hospital listed Scraff’s condition as “critical but stable” later upgraded to “serious but stable.

Via a Facebook listing by Scarff’s family, it was confirmed that further surgery was in the cards and his family was taking his recovery one day at a time.

Scarff works with a surf school in Kuta.
