Chinese, Taken Away

Bali Prosecutors Seek 8 Months Jail for Assault by Owner and Manager of Feyloon Restaurant

(2/1/2014) NusaBali reports that the owner and manager of the Feyloon Chinese Restaurant have heard prosecutors demand 8 months in prison in connection with their physical assault on Bali travel agent Hendra Haryanto.

The owner of the popular restaurant, Wong Yu Fai (45) from Malaysia, and the establishment’s Chinese manager, Wong Fei Wah (34), heard the sentence demands during a court session held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

The two men's lawyers told the court that the charges laid against the two men were untrue and demanded acquittal.

Prosecutors, in response, told the panel of judges that the charge of criminal assault had been proven and insited the two restauranteurs be given an 8-month sentence.

Meanwhile, a lawyer representing the victim of the assault commented that it had been conclusively proven that the two men had pursued his client across a busy street and beat him a public parking. Because of this, the victim’s lawyer saw the 8-month sentence demanded against the two foreigners as too lenient a punishment.

As reported previously, following a dispute over the charges for a tourist group’s menu between the travel agent and Feyloon Restaurant, the two men became enraged and repeatedly struck Haryanto in a supermarket parking and persistently continued the attack when the man tried to run away to an adjacent gas station.

Haryanto suffered facial wounds as a result of the attack.
