New Zealander Arrested by Bali Police in Drug Raid on a North Kuta Villa

(2/21/2014) An early morning drug raid by narcotic police in Bali has resulted in the arrest of a Paddington, Sydney resident, Leeza Tracey Ormsby (37).

Ormsby, originally from New Zealand, was staying at the Askara Villa in North Kuta when was found with a marijuana cigarette in her handbag. A subsequent search of the villa by police uncovered 27 grams of hashish, 132 grams of methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia.

Based on the evidence found at the villa, police are trying to determine if the woman was involved in drug dealing, a crime subject to the most severe penalties in Indoneisa.

Ormsby told police she is unemployed, but lists her profession on-line as a fitness trainer and owner of an espresso outlet. She arrived in Bali shortly before her arrest on February 12, 2014. She admitted to police that before the raid that she had participated in a drug party with 5 friends at the villa. The other participants in the drug fest had departed Bali before the police raid.

Depending on the eventual charges laid against the woman, she could be charge with dealing a Class One Narcotic, a crime punishable by death.
