Military Command Order Kite Flyers to Fly Low Until The Presidential Elections are Over

(6/29/2014) The head of the Udayana Military Command headquartered in Bali has reminded kite flying enthusiasts not to fly their kites at altitudes of more than 100 meters, due to the risk of endangering local air traffic.

The spokesman for the 9th Kodam Military District, Col. Handoko, said on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, that while the Command has not forbidden kite flying, they have stipulated that the maximum height for kite flying is 100 meters in order to avoid any conflicts with helicopters and other civil aircraft.

Quoted by Metrobali.com, Handoko added: “What’s more, during the presidential election officials will be observing the election process by helicopters and kites represent a hazard.

Handoko also reminded that when the Commander of the Udayana Military Commander Major General Wisnu Bawa Tenaya was observing the Asia Pacific Economic Summit (APEC) in October 2013, his helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in downtown Denpasar when a kite became entangled in the blades of the aircraft.
