CATO Conference Postponed

Australian Tour Operators Postpone Bali Meeting until 2004.

(5/21/2003) The Council of Australian Tour Operators (CATO), originally scheduled to hold their annual conference in Bali from June 6-9, 2003, have reluctantly decided to postpone their plans for a Bali conference until June of 2004.

The organizers of the event, billed to show the Australian travel industries' faith in Bali and its members' commitment to international travel in the aftermath of the October 12, 2002, terrorist attack on a Bali night spot, were quick to point out that the reason of canceling the Bali conference was due to poor registration numbers resulting from the current general downturn in trading conditions in the travel industry and the number of companies which have banned non-essential travel expenditures.

The Council is comprised of tour operators from Australia selling overseas travel programs to the Australian public. One of the focus points of the postponed Bali Conference was a seminar featuring top speakers discussing the topic: "Lessons Learnt – Crisis Management for the Travel Industry."
