Top Photographers Converge on Bali

15 of the World's Best Photographers to Spend 10 Days Rediscovering Bali.

(8/11/2003) Bali News: Top Photographers Converge on Bali Fifteen top photographers from England, Japan, Australia, USA and Indonesia arrived on Bali in August to spend 10 days taking shots to appear in a major new photography book Bali Rediscovered scheduled to be published in early December 2003.

Over the space of 10 days an estimated 60,000 photographs will be taken by the photographers, assisted by Indonesian photographers, and design students from Udayana University, and the School of Fine Arts. In the end, some 260 photographs will be selected and published in the book that will feature the talents of name photographers such as Rupert Hanbury Tenison (UK); Rama Surya (Indonesia); Martin Westlake (UK); Grenville Turner (Australia); Rio Helmi (Indonesia); Tim Rock (USA) and Rico Nose (Japan).

The stated goal of the book is to cover all aspects of Balinese life including the island's landscape, culture, ceremonies, temples and people. The commissioning editor of the book is Dr. Lawrence Blair, noted anthropologist and author of Ring of Fire, while creative direction will be provided by Dr. Leonard Lueras an author of more than 23 books on Asia. NBC News Travel correspondent Peter Greenburg will also contribute to the project.

The Bali Rediscovered project has numerous corporate sponsors and is endorsed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Bali Governor's office.
