U.S. Gives Security Equipment to Bali

Metal Detectors and Chassis Mirrors Handed to Police.

(8/25/2003) On Tuesday, August 19, 2003, the Consul General of the United States, Philip Antweiler and the U.S. State Department's Assistant Regional Security Officer, Tim Dumas, delivered 60 metal detectors and 30 under-chassis inspection mirrors to the Bali Police.

The equipment, received by Bali's Police Chief Irjen Made Mangku Pastika, are part of an ongoing anti-terrorism assistance program for Indonesia coordinated by the U.S. Department of State.

In an informal handover ceremony at Bali's Police Headquarters, Mr. Dumas demonstrated proper procedure for using the new equipment to a group of assembled police officers.

Police Chief Pastika thanked the visiting U.S. officials for their support while underlining the need for more of such equipment to ensure police in all parts of the island are well-prepared to fight terror. The Chief also indicated that discussions were underway with the U.S. authorities for additional anti-terror tools, including explosive materials detectors.
