Bali Airport Public Announcements to Feature Indonesian, English and, Now, Balinese

The Management of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport has decreed that public announcements for arriving and departing passengers will now be presented in three languages: Indonesian, English, and Balinese.
Explaining that the change is being undertaken to show fitting respect to Bali and its culture, I Gusti Rai Arie Ahsanurrohim,  head of Communications for Bali’s Airport,  said, “We must show local genius at the only air gateway for the international community (coming to Bali).”
The Balinese announcement will be pre-recorded for broadcast in both the domestic and international terminals.
In addition to Indonesian, English, and Balinese the international terminal also features announcements in Mandarin for Chinese travelers who now represent the largest group of Island visitors.
The use of local languages is already in use in the airports of Yogyakarta and Surabaya where Javanese is one of the labguages used for public announcements.
Airline passengers now arriving in Bali are also greeted by signs of welcome in Balinese, Indonesia, and English saying: Om Swastiastu, Selamat Datang, and Welcome.
