Lauda Air Returns to Bali

To handle Increased Demand for Asian Flights, Lauda Restarts its Bali Service.

(10/7/2001) The Austrian Airline Lauda has announced that they will re-open its flight service from Europe to Bali in order to handle increased consumer demand for Asian destinations in the wake of the World Trade Center tragedy of September 11.

Lauda's Operations Manager for Bali, Dera Mustika explained how the carrier ceased service in April of this year due to poor loads. Following the September 11 tragedy, however, there has been a pronounced shift in European demand away from the U.S.A. to Southeast Asia.

The new service will reportedly be run for an initial trial period of 4 months after which the airline will re-evaluate its options considering current demand for Bali and whether or not travel patterns in Europe and America have returned to their pre-September 11th levels.

Currently, Lauda Air, flies from Europe to Australia five times a week. Preliminary reports indicate that the renewed Denpasar service will operate only once each week using Boeing 777 equipment. (Bisnis Indonesia)
