SIA Cautious on November Onward Loads

Singapore Airline's Management Expects a Drop in Passengers to Bali From November.

(10/23/2001) While Singapore Airlines (SIA) reported a 9.5% increase in passengers to Bali through the end of August, forward cancellations for November onward indicate passenger loads may likely decrease in the near future, despite holding fairly firm in the period immediately following the WTC terrorist attacks.

Speaking to the Indonesian language Bisnis Indonesia, SIA's Country Manager for Indonesia, Mr. Raj Segram, reported that Bali's improved loads for the first eight months of the year were in marked contrast to the airline's performance nationwide for Indonesia, which showed a downturn of 15% for the same period.

SIA currently operates 28 flights each week or 4 flights per day between Singapore and Bali. Like other carriers, the Singapore Company has reduced flight frequencies on its worldwide system following the WTC incident and has imposed a US$ 5 insurance surcharge on all flights.
