(4/7/2007) Celebrating the 10th year of his artistic journey, Ubud-based painter Wayan Sila will be feature in a solo painting exhibition - "Treasure" at the Maya Ubud Resort & Spa from April 27 – May 7, 2007.
In a new departure in style, 30 pieces of his paintings and Giclée will be presented in conjunction with poetry and written verse by Yoko Miyasaki.
Wayan Sila studied Balinese painting using as his early models the motifs of barong and arja dances. The grandson of well known Balinese painter I Wayan Barwa, Wayan Sila's works now draws its inspiration from a magical world of owls, lights and forests.
His decade-long artistic sojourn began in 1997 when visiting Japan for an exhibition of his owl paintings. During that trip he visited elementary schools in Tokyo where he shared the Balinese style of painting with eager students. So enthusiastic was the response in Japan that Wayan Sila now visits Japan twice a year where he exhibits his work and teaches Balinese painting technique while telling children about Balinese culture and his life in the village of Ubud.
His latest exhibition combines his paintings with poetry written by Yoko Miyazaki and translated by Thomas R. Walker.
