Lion Air Buy 56 Boeing 737-900ER Aircraft

Deal for New Aircraft Signed At Singapore Air Show Valued at US$4.4 Billion.

(2/22/2008) Indonesian airline Lion Air has signed a contract to purchase 56 Boeing 737-900 ER at an estimated value of US$4.4 billion.

The signing, done during the Singapore Air Show was described by Lion Air's President Director, Rusdi Kirana, as a necessary step to modernize his Company's fleet and prepare for expanded air operations both domestically and internationally.

The signing of the contracted for the major purchase of new aircraft was executed by Rusdi Kirana and the Assistant Director of Marketing for Boeing, Denesh Keskar. Witnessing the transaction were the Minister of Transportation for Indonesia, Syafii Djamal, and the Director General for Civil Aviation, Budi Suyitno.

Explaining Lion Air's selection of Boeing 737-900 ERs, Kirana pointed to the aircraft's 5,900 kilometer range and ability to carry more than 200 passengers at an operating cost 6% les than its nearest competitor.

Lion Air is also planning to launch a new Malaysian air carrier later this year as a means of establishing a wider operational and marketing network
