Minister Wacik Rebukes Foreign Businesses and Expat Workers in Bali to Be More Generous in Sharing their Wealth.

(6/15/2010) Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, used the occasion of the re-launch of the "Bali is My Life" branding program to remind foreign workers and businesses in Bali not to be only profit oriented.

As reported by BisnisBali, The Minister used his meeting to deliver a scolding to the many foreign hotel managers in attendance, members of the Bali Hotel Association (BHA), who underwrote the substantial cost of the new multi-media promotional campaign.

Wacik warned: "We own this country. If there's cake, share it all around so everyone is happy." The Minister believed that there are still many foreign businesspeople in Indonesia who are too calculating and exclusive in their behavior, unwilling to share their profits. The Minister said these entrepreneurs come in large numbers to Bali seeking profits.

Minister Wacik said the situation would be better if foreign business people were not only profit oriented, but, instead, shared and developed together with the country. "There must be intent to grow together. For instance if a company earns a big profit they should then give a big bonus to the workers," Wacik commented.

Wacik called on the many hotel general managers in attendance to cooperate and create a situation of shared prosperity.
